PIERCINGS BY KATIE VANDERLENDE & ELIZABETH BRIZENDINE

OUR SHOP WILL BE ON HOLIDAY BREAK FRIDAY DECEMBER 27th - WEDNESDAY JANUARY 1st. - NO PIERCINGS WILL BE AVAILABLE.

Initial Healing
It’s normal for there to be dried blood crust around the jewelry and earlobes for the first few nights. Within a week, the piercing will begin to secrete a whitish or yellowish lymph fluid, which will crust over throughout the day.

Daily Cleaning
Clean the piercing once a day for the first month. Softly remove crust and debris using sterile saline or running water. Crust often hides behind the jewelry, so be sure to check there.

  • Use a Q-tip to gently remove crusties.

  • As the crusting and secretions decrease, you can reduce cleaning frequency.

How to Clean

  • Piercing Saline: Spray gently directly onto the piercing.

  • Wound Saline: Spray onto a cotton ball, Q-tip, or paper towel before applying to the piercing.

  • Alternatively, you can rinse the piercing under warm running water while in the shower.

Moisture Control
After cleaning, dry thoroughly with a Q-tip, paper towel, or a cool setting on a hair dryer. Moisture is the biggest cause of problems with earlobe piercings, so ensure the area behind the ears stays dry, especially after it gets wet. This drying step should continue for up to 3 months to avoid complications.

No Twisting or Moving
Do not twist, turn, or rotate the jewelry during the healing process. Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointment as these can irritate the piercing.

For Children Under 6
If your child is under 6 years old or their earlobes hug their head closely, we recommend swiping the area behind the ear (where the earlobe meets the head) with an alcohol prep pad or isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball 1-2 times per week. This prevents buildup of oils, shampoo, and dirt, which can cause irritation. Do not apply alcohol directly to the piercing or jewelry.

Jewelry Care
Do not remove the jewelry during the healing process. Once the piercing has fully healed (around 3 months), you may switch to a different piece of jewelry, or we can shorten the post for $10, as the extra length may catch or snag. Ensure any new jewelry is safe for everyday wear and sleep, as the piercing should not be left without jewelry for at least a year.

Important Notes:
These guidelines are based on professional experience and research. If you notice signs of infection (excessive pain, swelling, or unusual discharge), seek medical attention. However, be aware that many doctors may not be trained specifically in body piercings.
