PIERCINGS FOR MINORS
In the state of Michigan all children must have proper identification to be able to be pierced in a licensed establishment. See documentation needed below.
Kids' Ear Piercings
We are happy to pierce ears for children ages 4 and up.
For children under 8 years old, tandem piercing (both earlobes pierced at the same time by two piercers) is required.
**TANDEM PIERCINGS FOR KIDS ARE TYPICALLY AVAILABLE SUNDAYS AND FOR A LIMITED TIME ALSO AVAILABLE ON SATURDAYS!**
Please note:
Walk-in basis only: We do not take appointments for piercings. Walk-in availability is subject to piercer schedules.
Occasionally, family or personal events may require one of our piercers to step out of the shop. In these cases, tandem piercings may not be available, but we will always try to update our Instagram and website when this happens
CURRENT DATES TANDEM PIERCINGS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE:
SUN SEPT 28: No tandem
SAT NOV 15: No tandem
SUN NOV 16: No tandem
Which day should I come?
Kids 8 years of age and older are welcome to come during any of our business days. Outside of our tandem days, there would only be one piercer present, so they would need to be pierced one ear at a time.
Currently on Saturdays both piercers are in, but it is a full service shop that offers both tattoos and piercings. The tattoo machines can be loud and over stimulating for some folks. Sundays can be little better for some kids, especially those with sensory issues because Sundays tend to be a little quieter as tattoos are not typically scheduled that day in our studio. We hope this information can help you find the right day that works for you. Please note that on any day you come in, you are welcome to wait outside or request a call back if it’s super busy.
Walk-ins only - No Appointments. We do not schedule appointments due to the wide variation in how long each piercing service can take. To keep things fair and flexible and serve as many people as possible, we operate on a walk-in basis only.
Child Consent & Comfort
We believe in making the piercing experience as positive as possible. Piercings for children are done with full consent, and we always prioritize the comfort of the child. If a child decides they are not ready after the process has begun, we will never force or pressure them to continue. We want every child to feel comfortable and confident in their decision, and we will always support them, whether they choose to proceed or wait until they feel ready.
Why Choose Stay Awhile for My Child’s Piercing?
Our Piercers:
Choosing a reputable piercer at a state licensed shop is the safest way to get your child’s ears pierced, and we believe (semi-bias aside) our piercers are the very best! Katie and Elizabeth are not only highly experienced, but also moms themselves, so they are especially patient, empathetic, and understanding with kids who may be a little nervous about getting their first piercings. They go above and beyond to create a calm, welcoming environment for your child.
Both of our piercers are in the shop together currently on Saturday and Sunday, allowing us to offer tandem earlobe piercings, where both ears are pierced at the same time. This means your child won’t have to go through the process one ear at a time, making the experience quicker and easier.
Our Jewelry
At Stay Awhile, we pride ourselves on using only implant-grade titanium or solid gold for our piercings—and are one of the only are shops in the area to do so. Many other shops use surgical steel, which, while safe for many people, contains small traces of nickel and is not ideal for those with metal sensitivities. Implant-grade titanium is hypoallergenic, safe for sensitive skin, and more durable overall.
We also carry a selection of threadless titanium and gold jewelry, ensuring that quality and safety are our top priorities when it comes to both aesthetics and comfort.
The Stay Awhile Experience
We believe getting your child’s first piercing should be a memorable, positive experience for both them and your family. That’s why we’ve created a clean, welcoming environment, with comfortable seating, beverages, snacks, and even a rock bowl or treasure chest for children getting their first piercings. We want this experience to be fun, stress-free, and something your child will remember with a smile.
Say No to Piercing Guns!
At Stay Awhile, we never use piercing guns. We exclusively use single-use piercing needles, which cause far less tissue trauma, result in a quicker healing process, and provide a cleaner, more hygienic piercing procedure.
Piercing guns, on the other hand, force the earring through the tissue with pressure, causing unnecessary damage, tearing, and tissue distortion. For more information on the dangers of piercing guns, we encourage you to visit the Association of Professional Piercers website: www.safepiercing.org.
Preparing for the Big Day
We always pierce with the child’s full consent, and if, at any point, the child decides they’re not ready, we will never pressure or force them to go through with the piercing. It’s important to us that your child feels comfortable and confident.
That said, we’ve found that setting up a fun incentive can really help kids feel more excited. For example, “After we get your ears pierced, we can go get ice cream!” Many kids also find it helpful to know that the piercing feels like a quick, firm squeeze. Sometimes, kids feel nervous once they’re in the room, and they might ask to leave and come back another day. We’ve had many kids leave without getting pierced during their first visit, but we’ve rarely had children who didn’t return and end up getting their piercings later—sometimes a little time to process the experience is all they need.
